what's the business of business? is it realizing self-fulfilment? is it realizing social value?or people just take a delight in making friends in their business?
before i express my vision,i want to ask a question, what is your original intent of starting a business?
I think the majority of people may have the same answer—to make money. In other words, the business of their business is to increase it's profit. maybe some people live in a rich life, starting a business is just to prove their own ability. however, what is the strongest confirmation? i believe increasing their business's profits must be the answer.
there is also a sense of social responsibility in business. the bigger the scale of your business is,the more expectation it undertakes. the expectation is from both employees and society.he bigger the scale of your business is,the more employees are emploied. the more employess are emploied, the more families are fed. without increasing profits, how to meet these expectations?
without a certain economic base, how to achieve deeper ideals? without money, how to survive in the society? if you can not survive, how can you live a better life?
above all, i believe that the business of business is to increase it's profits.

hey,
ReplyDeletefirst of all:
please, you would do your fellow students a big favour if you switched the language of your website to English. I fear not many people can read the buttons and it caused me some troubles to dinf my way through the -for me incomprehensible- signs.
Comment:
I think you argue in a way Friedman would approve of. However, I have the opinion that
a.) of course we want to make money, but is it the only thing a business should care about?
Because a business that supports families by depleting resources and polluting the environment contributes to the benefits to a limited amount of people (the shareholders, employees, their families) by sacrificing the freedom of the entire population to live in a healthy environment. Do you think that is a good idea?
b.)Only making profit is not the only facot that is implied in the slogan of 'the business of businesses is to increase profits': it also entails that we need to live in a growth market that forces businesses to always gain more. What do you think of alternatives?
thanks for your comment, in my opinion, of course, making profits is just the primary goal of business. with the development of the times, people will focus more on eco. but how could a man without enough food or water care about environmental problems?
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI interesting point of businesses being some kind of local 'aid' organization in the sense that they enable people to make a living! I wonder, however, if the connection between making (or even increasing) profit and being able to pay your employees is as strong as you argue. I mean, wages are part of the budget of a company already. Is profit all that a company earns, or is it that what is left over after expenses (like wages) are covered? What definition you choose does not really matter (at least, as long as your arguments fit it), but making it explicit would help me as a reader!
